Dressage Equitation
"We're not judging the horse directly, however the way the rider sits, the contact with the horse, the use of the aids, directly relates to how the horse is going to go," he explained. Tom said one ride stands out as the best one he saw in equitation today. "I gave one rider a 95 out of a possible 100, which if you felt that way, you could give it," explained Tom who is not a rated judge, but was serving as a Guest Judge this year - the three years previous he has been a Roving Trainer. "The rider had very good seat position. He was not interfering with the horse at all. He had good soft contact and was maybe just a touch behind the vertical, which didn't affect the horse at all, but it kept me from giving him 100." Tom said it would be interesting to include Dressage Equitation in recognized dressage shows, "but I don't know what kind of a turnout it would have. It helps riders with their awareness of the importance of seat and position." |
