2003 North American Young Riders Championships Canadian Rider Wins Junior Jumping Championship Bromont, Saturday, August 23, 2003 – Kim Farlinger, from Ontario, won the Junior Jumping Championship for young riders, aged 14 to 16, in Bromont, Québec, on Saturday, August 23. She had the best performance after day 1, day 2 and day 4 events of the Championnat des Amériques 2003 taking place at the Bromont Olympic Equestrian site until Sunday, August 24. Thousands of spectators, a record number for equestrian events in Québec, travelled to Bromont to watch close to 200 riders from nine countries, competing in three different disciplines, dressage, jumping and cross country. Kim Farlinger, riding del Destino, finished first overall following her second place in the final event on Saturday. Second rank went to Heather Rasulis, representing USA-Zone 1, while third place’s winner was Tedra Bates, representing USA-Zone 10. Rider from Québec, Jennifer O’Neil finished eighth and Nicolas-Xavier Bélanger, tenth. The cross country event, one of three components of the discipline of Three-Day Event took place on Saturday. Results for the cross country will be added to those of the last event, show jumping, which will take place Sunday morning. The last dressage and jumping events will also take place Sunday and will determine the overall team and individual winners for each discipline. Closing ceremonies should take place at approximately 3:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon. |
