Four Equestrians Carry The Flag of their Country in the Opening Ceremonies for the 2000 Olympic Games Four equestrians had the thrilling honor of carrying the flag of their country during the brilliant opening ceremonies of the first Olympic Games of the new century in Sydney Australia. Mary Jane Tumbridge from Bermuda, the individual Three-Day Event Gold medalist of the 1996 Pan American Games, marched along with her fellow countryman in the signature uniform, Bermuda shorts. Tumbridge lives and trains in America, and has a good shot at an individual medal if all goes well in the Three Day Event, the first equestrian event to get underway at Horseley Park, the venue for The Equestrian events at the 2000 Olympic Games. Princess Haya of Jordania the daughter of the late King Hussein led the small delegation for her country. The beautiful princess, an accomplished show jumper who competes in the International Showjumping circuit, has finally qualified to represent her country in the Olympic Games. For New Zealand was the popular Three-Day Event world champion and reigning Olympic Individual Gold medalist, Blyth Tait beamed as he carried the flag before the "Ziwis", neighbors and sport rivals of the Aussies. Tait captured America's top Eventing prize at The Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event this past April, and recently lost his 1996 Olympic partner, Chesterfield to a tragic and sudden heart attack. And before the bright orange fleet of Dutch athletes, Anky Van Grunsven, Dressage World Cup, and European Champion, with her famous smile, led the delegation from the Netherlands.
