Andrew Hoy Heads Up A Leading Three-Day Team
In a press conference following the day's cross-country course the Australians expressed their appreciation of the crowd. A sold out crowd of 50,000 people came to watch and cheer in support. Hoy commented about the crowd, "Going around the cross country course I've never heard such support. I never thought competing on home turf would be so emotional." In fact, there were people everywhere waving flags and with faces painted yellow and green, the Aussie's colors. They cheered as their countrymen jumped clear. They cheered them on as they departed each fence. They had good reason to cheer as the Australians rode brilliantly under conditions that were close to ideal. Although the weather was a bit hot, it was not unbearable and allowed the horses to get the job done even better than the course designer had hoped.
