Journalistic Experiences
While
studying English at Wofford College in Spartanburg, SC, Amber continued
eventing at the lower levels, and completed an unpublished novel and
several short stories related to the equestrian scene. The interim travel
programs at Wofford, as well as a summer studying abroad in Bath, England,
opened the door to travel and adventure, taking Amber to several continents.
Trekking in the Himalayas, riding a camel across a desert in India,
swimming with penguins in the Galapagos Islands, and exploring an active
volcano in the South Pacific are among those adventures. Recently her
travels have included horses: cross-country training and trekking in
Ireland and a dressage holiday in Thailand!
Combining
her interests in horses, writing and travel, Amber was first published
in The Chronicle of the Horse just after college, riding to make ends
meet until she established her name in the publishing industry.
After
meeting Mary Phelps at the CHIO Aachen in Germany she spent a winter
in Florida on the show circuit videoing dressage with the PHE Inc. crew,
opening new doors in the dressage scene. Working at a sales barn in
the Netherlands, and most recently at a show jumping yard in Ireland
have given Amber a global perspective of the horse industry.
