Charlene Strickland: Content that Communicates (page 2) For print magazines, she is a Contributing Editor with Tack ‘n Togs. Previously she submitted monthly columns to The Horse and Horse Illustrated. Strickland wrote her early articles on an electric typewriter, and in 1984 switched to her first computer. She’s now using computers 7 (desktop PC) and 8 (notebook PC). She started writing with the word processor Wordstar and now uses the open source office suite, Star Office 8. In 1995, she started developing her first Web pages using software on UNIX and Macintosh computers. As a photographer, Strickland started as a video producer, before switching to still photography. She shoots visuals for her articles and all her books, using Nikon cameras and now shooting completely digital. An amateur rider, Strickland has ridden and shown Western, hunt seat, and dressage. She is a member of the International Alliance of Equestrian Journalists, the Authors Guild, and the Society for Technical Communication. Strickland
holds a B.A. in English from Scripps College, and a Masters in Library
Science from U.C.L.A. She is employed as a Senior Technical Editor with
Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC), a major information
technology firm. She works with technical experts in U.S. Government
agencies and Fortune 100 companies to write and edit reports, software
documentation, e-learning courses for Web-based training, business proposals,
and marketing materials. She and her husband Geoff live in Bosque Farms,
